Jan Meek

In 1997 Jan Meek joined her son Daniel Byles at the start line of the first Ocean Rowing race across the Atlantic at the tender age of 53, showing her inspirational attitude to achieve. Some 3044 days later they arrived in Barbados and rowed into the record books. A decade later Jan joined her son and Richard Profit to race to the North Pole in another epic adventure. This time in freezing conditions Jan Meek and her team were skiing and dragging their sledges 560 kms to the Magnetic North Pole.

The team experienced temperatures as low as -86 degrees below, a fire that burnt down their tent and Polar Bear encounters on the way to another Guiness World Record. Less than 12 months later Jan Meek returned to the Geographic North Pole with explorer David Hempleman Adams. Of course that leaves Jan with the small bit of unfinished business with the South Pole on her list next. She has previously been the mayor of Chipping Norton, worked in the film industry with greats such as Roger Moore and Sammy David Jnr.

Jan's late start to adventure has not hampered her progress and she lives the motto “if you want to you can do it..” Jan is a brilliant key note speaker, raconteur and also an excellent after-dinner speaker with the bureau. Jan Meek is the only women on earth to have rowed the Atlantic and walked to the Pole demonstrating a real inspirational role model. More people have walked on the moon than have done both.
