Niall McCann

Niall McCann talks about what it takes to row across the Atlantic Ocean as part of a two-man team which overcame a medical emergency, storms and failing equipment. Previously Niall had led a scientific expeditions into the Amazon in search of rare and endangered species.  He loves remote locations on the trail of dangerous species such as the Anaconda. He has also, cycled the world's highest paved pass (between China and Pakistan), and mountaineered all over the globe.

Niall McCann graduated in Zoology from Bristol University, and is currently studying again in Cardiff for a Doctorate.  He spent some time as a field biologist before making the painful decision to leave the impoverished world of biology to make a living. Working in an office from 9-6 every day, he fuelled his desire to offset the hours spent at a computer with hours challenging himself in the outdoors.
Prior to the Ocean Rowing his main passions in life were biology and climbing, and it was proposed by a friend to row the Atlantic with an email titled “Lets do something stupid like this” to which Niall immediately agreed. He has been on various expeditions, including climbing in the Alps, cycling in the Himalayas and canoeing in the Yukon, but nothing compares to the challenge of rowing the Atlantic.

Niall McCann is a ball of energy with an inspirational unique insight on adventure, rare species and life on planet earth. Hearing him talk is like James Bond meets Steve Irwin with a hint of Indiana Jones thrown in.
