Alastair Humphreys

In 2001, aged 24, Alastair Humphreys left England to cycle round the planet. After 4 years, 5 continents, 50 countries and 46,000 miles he returned.

Alastair’s adventures began at an early age. when he completed the 26 mile Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge, aged 8, and then did the National 3 Peaks in 24 hours at 13. Whilst at university (Edinburgh and Oxford) Alastair cycled from Pakistan to China, Land’s End to John O’Groats, Turkey to Italy, Mexico to Panama and across South America. He ran a charity project in the Philippines and the London marathon dressed as a rhino. Alastair has also raced a yacht across the Atlantic Ocean, walked the length of the holy Kaveri river in India.
He ran the Marathon des Sables, billed the toughest Footrace on earth (finishing as one of the ten fastest Brits despite suffering an injury) and rowed to France with Major Phil Packer, a soldier during the Iraq conflict. In 2010 he completed an unsupported crossing of Iceland by foot and Alpackraft.
He has recently been working on micro adventures with such creative plans such as the A-Z of eating (a culinary adventure). He is a patron is Hope and Homes, the Children’s charity.

Alastair Humphreys is an adventurer, accomplished author and inspirational speaker. Al has published three books, with a children’s book on its way. At the Bureau, we have know Al for many years and would endorse that he is an inspiring and accomplished speaker providing a call to arms that nothing is achieved without being bold enough to begin it.
