Tim Baillie

Tim Baillie was born in Aberdeen and raised in Westhill, first getting into a canoe at a very young age as his parents were already keen canoeists. He started training with the Scottish slalom squad and went on to represent Great Britain at Junior and Under 23 level in Kayak single category. He teamed up with Etienne Stott after the 2004 season to race in Canoe Double (C2) category.

Tim and Etienne have won several medals at World and European level in the C2 team event, including Gold at the 2012 European Championships in Germany. They also won a Bronze medal as a crew at the European Championships in 2009. They have won the UK Championships 4 times.

Their greatest achievement to-date is winning the Gold Medal at the London 2012 Olympic Games, the first gold ever won by Great Britain in canoe slalom. To do this they beat the defending triple Olympic Champions the Slovak Hochschorner twins and just stayed ahead of the other British crew Florence/Hounslow, to make it an historic British one-two.

Tim is a humble champion who tells their story with a sparkle, pride and passion. Hear how Tim (and Etienne) upset the odds and helped make it one of British Canoeing’s most successful days in history.
